Whimsy and Wonder: Designing Vibrant, Personalized Bedrooms for Two Creative Souls
In this fun project, we had the delightful challenge of designing two separate bedrooms, each reflecting the unique personalities of their young occupants—a creative 9-year-old with an artistic flair and a 7-year-old who absolutely adores pink. The result is a playful exploration of color, with one room featuring bold combinations of blues and reds to inspire creativity, while the other bursts with vibrant pinks complemented by fresh greens for a cheerful, lively vibe. Both spaces are thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and provide cozy, personalized retreats for each child.
“A child’s room should be a canvas for their imagination, where every color, texture, and detail tells their unique story.”
For the 9-year-old young artist’s bedroom, we started with a clean slate and decided to create a cozy bed nook that doubles as both a sleeping area and a creative space. We designed a custom-built nook with integrated bookshelves to neatly store all of the artist’s materials and toys, keeping the space organized yet inspiring.
To make the bed multifunctional, we topped it with an assortment of different-shaped cushions, transforming it into a comfy sofa perfect for reading or relaxing. We love the bold combination of blue and red, which we highlighted through carefully selected fabrics, adding vibrancy and energy to the space.
Adding a personal touch, we beautifully decorated with the artist’s own paintings, turning their creations into a meaningful part of the room’s design.
For the walls, we chose a beautiful blue shade from Farrow & Ball, pairing it with a darker-toned blue for the window frames to create depth and contrast. This rich color palette is perfectly complemented by striking beige and red curtains, which serve as a statement piece, adding warmth and a dynamic pop of color to the room. The result is a vibrant, functional space that nurtures creativity and comfort in equal measure.
For the 7-year-old girl’s bedroom, we took a completely different design direction to reflect her love for all things pink. She already had a beautiful bed, inherited from her aunt, so we decided to give it new life by adding a charming canopy made from green fabric with a subtle touch of pink.
This fresh color combination sets the tone for the entire room, where greens and pinks are woven throughout the design—from the soft, flowy curtains to the cozy rug and the carefully curated bed decor. The result is a whimsical, cheerful space that feels both timeless and uniquely hers, blending sentimental pieces with playful, modern touches.
To add a magical touch, we selected a charming wallpaper for the wall opposite the bed, resembling an enchanted forest filled with birds and flowers, creating a whimsical backdrop that sparks the imagination. As a heartfelt detail, we hung an old dollhouse, lovingly painted by her grandmother, and repurposed it as a bookshelf.
A Magical Makeover: Transforming a Family Dining Room with Color and Character
The owner of this apartment dreamed of having a fun, inviting family dining space—a room that could effortlessly transition from lively dinners to homework sessions and heartfelt family talks. However, the space was previously dull and uninspiring, lacking the warmth and energy it deserved. To change that, we proposed going all in with color, transforming the room into a vibrant, magical world designed to spark joy and connection. Through bold hues, playful patterns, and thoughtful details, we created an atmosphere that feels both cozy and dynamic, the perfect backdrop for countless family gatherings and cherished memories.
“The combination of the playful stripes and this enchanting mural turned the once-dull dining area into a colorful, magical haven perfect for family gatherings.”
The starting point for this transformation was the long bench that was already part of the room. Given its generous size, we saw an opportunity to turn it into a statement piece by reupholstering it in bold stripes. We discovered an incredible Lewis & Wood fabric featuring vibrant stripes in shades of pink, orange, green, and blue—an instant spark of inspiration that set the tone for the entire space.
The second step was finding the perfect mural wallpaper to complement the vibrant bench and bring the entire space to life. The dining room featured a large, expansive wall that felt like a blank canvas—too big to leave plain, yet full of potential. We knew we needed something bold, something that would pop and transport anyone who entered to another world. That’s when we discovered this stunning mural from Les Dominotiers, which instantly captivated us. Its serene depiction of a lake surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation created a dreamy, immersive backdrop, adding depth, warmth, and a touch of escapism to the room.
To make the room feel even cozier, we added rattan ceiling lamps that brought warmth and texture, perfectly complementing the vibrant colors in the space. For the windows, we designed custom Roman shades using a beautiful green houndstooth fabric, which we also used for some accent pillows to create a cohesive look. To give the room an extra dose of character, we selected a sleek wooden dining table with modern legs and painted them in a vibrant, lacquered blue. This bold pop of color added a playful twist, tying together the room’s lively, eclectic vibe while ensuring it remained inviting and full of charm.
A Colorful Escape: Transforming a Madrid Apartment into a Vibrant Paradise
Tucked away in the heart of Madrid, this charming little apartment was designed to be a joyful pied-à-terre for its owners, a place that would instantly lift their spirits every time they returned to the city. Embracing the idea of a vibrant escape, we decided to go all in with color—no rules, no boundaries.
“We embraced color without hesitation—mixing bold hues, playful patterns, and vibrant fabrics to create a joyful, unapologetically lively space that feels like a little paradise in the heart of Madrid.”
Bold hues collide with playful patterns, and an eclectic mix of fabrics breathes life into every corner. By layering textures, contrasting tones, and unexpected combinations, we transformed this compact space into a dynamic, feel-good paradise that radiates warmth, energy, and personality.
We started with the main bedroom, where we went all out with color. The focal point was always going to be the headboard, designed to stand out since it’s visible from the living room. We instantly fell in love with an embroidered Schumacher fabric that set the tone for the entire space—vibrant, bold, and full of character. From there, we curated a playful mix of cushion fabrics in shades of blue, green, purple, pink, and yellow, creating an unexpected harmony that feels both lively and cohesive.
To add warmth and texture, we chose a sisal wallpaper in a seagrass tone, its earthy hue blending seamlessly with the greens in the headboard’s floral motif, making the room feel like a cozy, colorful retreat.
The TV room was another playful canvas, where we let creativity lead the way. Our starting point was a striking peacock-patterned fabric for a small accent chair, bursting with character and setting the tone for the entire space. From there, we leaned into rich green tones, reupholstering the large sofa in a lush green fabric that adds depth and warmth. To tie it all together, we introduced a small pouf covered in a vibrant blue-and-green striped fabric, bringing in a dynamic, fresh energy.
The finishing touch was painting the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Peignoir, a soft, romantic grey-pink that adds a subtle, sophisticated contrast to the boldness of the textiles, creating a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere perfect for unwinding.
We used all types of fabric colors and patterns to keep the energy bold and eclectic. Stripes in a rich berry hue added a vibrant punch, while a soft Greco pink stripe brought a subtle, timeless charm to the mix. To top it off, we couldn’t resist a playful green dragon embroidery that injects a sense of whimsy and fun.
Finding the perfect TV console for this vibrant space proved to be a challenge—nothing seemed to blend seamlessly with the bold, eclectic energy we had created. So, we decided to design our own. The result is a custom piece that stands proudly on playful, oversized ball-shaped legs, adding a sculptural, whimsical touch. We finished it with a glossy lacquer in a striking pink-burgundy hue, which not only complements the room’s rich color palette but also turns the console into a standout feature.
For the living room, we opted for a slightly more tranquil palette to offer a soft contrast to the bolder rooms. Here, we played with a harmonious blend of light blue and rich burgundy, brought to life through spectacular Lewis & Wood fabrics.
Rustic Elegance: A Cozy Countryside Retreat Designed for Connection
One of our favorite projects was the redesign of this charming countryside house, where we had the freedom to experiment with color, mood, and a mix of antiques and countryside-style furniture to craft the perfect weekend retreat. The living room, in particular, stands out with its seamless connection to the outdoors. We chose Farrow and Ball’s Cromarty green for the walls, which beautifully echoed the lush garden views just outside.
The mint sofas, accented with pops of purple and pink, added vibrancy to the space. A vintage mirror placed above the fireplace not only anchored the room but also reflected a striking collection of mounted deer heads, adding a rustic yet elegant touch that complemented the countryside setting and completed the cozy, inviting atmosphere.
“We designed the space around the chimney to be a cozy, inviting spot where small chairs, stools, and pillows create a sense of closeness, perfect for shared moments and connection.”
The chimney is our favorite spot in the house, radiating warmth and inviting people to gather. We envisioned it as a cozy hub where, during the winter months, friends and family could sit around, engage in conversation, and share meaningful moments.
Our goal was to make this area a true place of connection, which is why we carefully curated small chairs, stools, banquettes, and an assortment of pillows to create an intimate, communal atmosphere. Nestled close to the rug, this arrangement feels like a mystical meeting spot, perfect for bringing people together in comfort and closeness.
These Napoleon III armchairs were purchased in an almost destroyed state, but their shape captivated us, and they were exactly what we had been searching for. To blend modernity with a rustic touch while honoring the traditional design of the chair, we selected a quirky fabric in vibrant poppy green, yellow, and pink tones.
The bold pattern was key in bringing a fresh, contemporary feel to the otherwise classic silhouette, transforming the chairs into eye-catching pieces that perfectly bridge the old with the new.
Designing the rooms was an incredibly fun and creative process, and we began by focusing on color as the foundation for each space. Our goal was for each room to have its own distinct identity, making it easy for guests to recognize and connect with them. This approach led to the creation of what we affectionately call the Blue Room, Pink Room, Green Room, and Terracotta Room.
The Pink Room is probably our favorite, thanks to the perfect shade Pink Ground from Farrow and Ball, which set the tone for the entire space. We complemented the soft pink walls with rich green curtains and a matching green lamp adorned with Ikat lampshades.
To add depth and character, we incorporated a collection of antiques—old chairs, trunks, tables, and a mix of antique pottery that brought a sense of history and charm. For a fun twist, we introduced a vibrant painting we discovered at an auction and a colorful Murano-style mirror, giving the countryside-style bedroom a playful and unexpected touch.
For the Blue Room, we selected Farrow and Ball’s Selvedge, a soft, calming blue that set a serene backdrop. To add a playful contrast, we paired it with pink accents, including striped pink applique lampshades that brought a touch of whimsy. The pop of color from the bold red side tables adds an unexpected, fun mix to the room. A highlight of this space is the set of four antique paintings we found at an auction; their frames were the perfect fit, adding an elegant and timeless charm to the room’s overall design.
One of our favorite pieces in this house is a striking red antique chair, featuring a woven image of what appears to be a gaucho. This chair commands attention in a cozy corner, where it creates a stunning contrast against a Portuguese painted tapestry adorned with whimsical monkeys. The unexpected juxtaposition of the bold, rustic chair with the playful elegance of the tapestry adds a unique layer of character to the space, making it a true conversation starter.
When it came to the exterior fabrics, we found ourselves torn between choosing green or red stripes. In the end, we decided to embrace both! For the front terrace, we opted for the vibrant green stripes, bringing a fresh and lively feel to the space. Meanwhile, the back garden terrace features the bold red stripes, creating a cozy, warm atmosphere.
Transforming Small Spaces: A Vibrant Makeover for a Cozy Apartment
In the heart of Madrid, nestled among the bustling streets and historic architecture, lies a small apartment that recently underwent a remarkable transformation. What was once a cramped one-bedroom unit is now a vibrant, modern, and comfortable two-bedroom haven. Our team at Estudio Mavit had the pleasure of reshaping this space, turning it into a cute and colorful living place that maximizes every square inch.
“The primary challenge was rethinking the layout to add a second bedroom without compromising space. By relocating the kitchen and transforming its former area into a bedroom, we maintained a spacious and functional living and dining area.”
We preserved all the original woodwork from this early 20th-century apartment, ensuring its historical charm remained intact. The wooden shutters, though quite worn, were meticulously revamped and painted in the beautiful “Light Blue” color from Farrow and Ball. We extended this same color to the skirting boards throughout the apartment. This cohesive use of “Light Blue” not only restored the shutters’ former glory but also introduced a fresh, unified aesthetic to the home, infusing every space with a subtle yet captivating splash of color.
One of the pieces we love most in this apartment is the vibrant green Murano glass ceiling lamp. Its design is inspired by the iconic Sputnik lamp of the 60s, reimagined with crystal Murano bars. This reinterpretation brings a unique and dynamic touch to any space, adding a burst of color and a nod to mid-century modern aesthetics, perfectly blending the old with the new in a stylish and eye-catching way.
During the renovation process, we encountered a structural pillar that couldn’t be altered. Rather than seeing it as a hindrance, we embraced the challenge and transformed it into a stunning wooden bookshelf. What was once a nondescript architectural element became a focal point of the room, adding both functionality and visual interest to the space. This creative solution not only maximized the use of the existing structure but also added a unique touch to the overall design, showcasing the beauty of innovation in architecture and interior design.
We fell in love with the blue-themed kitchen and decided to incorporate rounded blue wooden slats for the cabinets. From the kitchen to the living room and beyond, wooden slats became a unifying element, adding warmth, texture, and a touch of whimsy to every corner. This cohesive design approach not only ties the spaces together but also imbues the entire home with a sense of character and charm.
The guest bathroom in this apartment was already in decent condition, so we opted for a small facelift. Given its compact size, we chose to play with stripes from floor to ceiling to enhance the sense of depth and perspective. Utilizing Hisbalit tiles in three different tones, we created a dynamic visual effect. To amplify the impact of the stripes, we painted the walls with a bold burgundy hue named “Preference Red” from Farrow and Ball, resulting in a striking and stylish transformation.
Playing with stripes in shades of grey and beige, we introduced a pop of color with a burgundy bullnose, adding vibrancy and dimension to the space. The bathroom vanity unit continues the theme of rounded slats, this time crafted in wood, creating a seamless connection with the kitchen design. To elevate the overall look, we selected some exquisite finishing touches, including the charming Pooky blue bubble mirrors and modern wall sconces adorned with Ikat fabric
Eclectic Fusion of Colors and Patterns: Interior Design in a Madrid Apartment
In the heart of Madrid, we embarked on an exceptional interior design project for an international client with a penchant for eclectic aesthetics. Our task was to create a space that harmoniously blended an array of colors and patterns, all while preserving a serene and tranquil ambiance.
“Within the walls of our Madrid apartment, the pink bubble ceiling lamp from an exquisite antique store reigns as the radiant centerpiece, casting a spell of timeless elegance and infusing every corner with its enchanting glow.”
This project was a delightful journey into the world of design, where we carefully curated a rich tapestry of global influences, from a Moroccan bone inlayed table to colorful English patterns, to reflect the client’s diverse tastes. The result is a captivating, one-of-a-kind sanctuary that effortlessly melds vibrant hues and intricate patterns, striking a delicate balance between exuberance and serenity.
Accommodating a vast collection of contemporary art was a delightful challenge. Each piece, from vibrant canvases to an avant-garde light installation, needed its own stage to shine. We scoured every nook and cranny, seeking perfect spaces that seamlessly integrated with the overall aesthetic.
In crafting the interior design of this kids’ room, a harmonious fusion of green and pink was the guiding principle. The vibrant shades of green on the walls and the embroidered rug breathe joy and energy into the space. However, it’s the soft pink ceiling that masterfully ties everything together. Serving as a serene, rosy canopy, it brings a sense of balance and tranquility to the room where creativity and dreams can flourish.
Timeless Elegance: A Modern Madrid Apartment with Antique Flair and Bold Hues
Nestled within the heart of Madrid, this elegant apartment underwent a striking transformation that seamlessly melds the old-world charm of its architectural heritage with a contemporary flair. Upon entering, one is immediately greeted by a captivating fusion of styles, where antique elements coexist with sleek modern furnishings. We opted for a daring color palette, incorporating rich shades of blue, passionate reds, and warm mustards throughout the living spaces.
“By infusing bold colors and seamlessly blending cherished antiques with contemporary furnishings, we’ve crafted a unique haven where old architectural charm meets new-age design, a soothing, yet vibrant, place to call home.”
Every corner of this space tells a story, with vintage pieces lending a sense of history while modern furniture exudes sophistication. This reimagined Madrid apartment is a testament to the enchanting beauty that emerges when the past and present are thoughtfully intertwined, creating a truly distinctive and inviting sanctuary.
The 8-meter green mustard carpet stands as the pièce de résistance in this living room, effortlessly becoming the focal point and our favorite detail. Its generous size spans the entire room, creating a sense of grandeur and cohesiveness, anchoring the entire design scheme. The rich green and mustard hues, echoing the colors found throughout the apartment, bring a delightful sense of unity and balance to the space. Its presence is a testament to how a well-chosen centerpiece can tie together the entire design, elevating the living room into an inviting oasis of style and comfort.
A piece of history found its rightful place in the modern interior of the apartment when a eighteenth-century tapestry, once owned by the owner’s grandfather, adorns one of the living room walls. Its intricate details and rich heritage seamlessly merge with the contemporary surroundings. The choice of Farrow and Ball’s deep red paint for the walls enhances the tapestry’s allure, creating a harmonious blend that bridges the centuries and adds a captivating layer of depth and character to the living space.
